The controversy stems from Devil Dinosaur’s comic book partner, Moon Girl (Lunella Lafayette). She appears in the trailer—rescued by Cyclops—but will not be a playable character. NetEase has not publicly explained the decision, but reliable leaker Miller Ross claims that child combatants are excluded due to restrictions from age-rating boards. Ross added that aging up Lunella would “basically mean making an entirely new character,” a rationale many fans find unsatisfying.

Fan Proposals and Pushback

Fans argue that NetEase had creative freedom to alter Moon Girl, pointing out that several existing roster characters already diverge significantly from their comic counterparts. Some suggest that an aged-up Moon Girl was feasible within the game’s lore. Others propose a design where Moon Girl is a non-combatant riding Devil Dinosaur, protected from damage—similar to how Mortal Kombat X handled the Ferra-Torr duo. In that model, Moon Girl would retreat off-screen when the pair is downed, preserving her child status without violating age guidelines.
