Dune: Awakening Endgame Rework – PvE & PvP Split

Dune: Awakening’s endgame has been a source of tension since launch. The Deep Desert, which unlocks after significant progression, currently switches the game from PvE to full PvP and contains the best loot in the MMO. This forced PvP access sparked backlash from players who preferred a cooperative or solo experience. Funcom has now acknowledged the feedback and announced a rework to let both playstyles coexist.

      Endgame Rework Announced

Creative director Joel Bylos addressed the community via a blog post on Steam and the game’s official website. The key change: some areas of the Deep Desert will be flagged as “Partial Warfare (PvE),” allowing PvE gameplay in those zones. However, the deepest parts of the region will remain strictly PvP to preserve the original high-risk, high-reward vision. No release date for the patch has been given; Funcom describes it as arriving “soon.”

      Balancing Risk and Player Preference

The adjustment aims to prevent endgame drop-off by giving PvE-oriented players access to top-tier resources without forcing them into unwanted conflict. At the same time, pure PvP zones ensure that thrill-seekers still have a dangerous frontier to conquer. By segmenting the Deep Desert, Funcom hopes to retain a broader audience while honoring the core design intent. The rework reflects a broader effort to let opposing playstyles—whether drawn to the harsh PvP challenge or the cooperative exploration of Arrakis—coexist within the same endgame loop.
