Marvel Rivals Monetization: Lattice & Battle Pass

Marvel Rivals, the free-to-play hero shooter, relies on a two-currency monetization system similar to other games in the genre. Understanding how these currencies work and what the battle passes offer is key for players deciding whether to invest time or money.

      Currencies: Lattice and Units

The game uses two distinct currencies. Lattice is the premium currency, purchased directly with real money at a rate of roughly $1 for 100 Lattice. Units, by contrast, are earned through in-game activities such as completing achievements, participating in events, and progressing through battle passes. Units can be exchanged for Lattice at a 1:1 ratio, but Lattice is primarily obtained via direct transactions. This dual-currency approach gives players a way to earn premium-tier items without spending money, albeit at a slower pace.

      Battle Pass Tiers and Permanence

Marvel Rivals offers two battle pass tiers: Free and Luxury. The Free Battle Pass costs nothing and guarantees at least one epic-quality costume as a headline reward. The Luxury Battle Pass requires 490 Lattice (approximately $5) and guarantees five costumes alongside additional cosmetic items. Notably, purchased Luxury Battle Passes never expire. This means players can progress toward their rewards at their own pace without fear of missing out—a design choice reminiscent of Helldivers 2’s Warbond system. This permanent progression respects players’ time and removes the pressure often associated with seasonal passes.
