Deep within the forgotten bowels of Pharloom, where light fears to tread and silence reigns supreme, a dark secret slumbered. Hornet had heard whispers—fragmented tales spun by frightened bugs—of a creature so dangerous it was locked away beyond the reach of even the most zealous jailers. They called it the First Sinner. Few had ever seen its prison, and fewer still had returned to speak of the encounter. But Hornet was not one to shy away from a challenge, especially when the reward was whispered to be a Silk Skill of terrifying power.

To even reach the prisoner, Hornet first needed to breach The Slab—a sprawling underground penitentiary that clung to the left flank of the Choral Chambers. But simply finding the entrance was not enough. A massive gate barred the way, demanding the Key of Apostate. Some daring wanderers had been kidnapped by Wardenflies and stolen into the prison that way, only to lose their belongings in the process. Hornet opted for a more direct method. She descended into the Putrefied Ducts, a festering network below Bilewater, where the stench of decay was overpowering. In a crumbling hole in the left wall of the lower section, she discovered a corpse clutching the long-coveted key.
